Heidelberg, Germany

This past weekend in Heidelberg was by far one of my favorite travel weekends.

Not only was it with amazing friends, but a beautiful city and it was extremely relaxing. It was fun, relaxing, beautiful, and spontaneous. Last Monday, we decided it would be a great idea to go on a trip this weekend to Heidelberg, so we found a place to stay and on Wednesday bought our tickets there for our train ride on Thursday. Thankfully for all of us we wanted a chill weekend after such a crazy hell week (one huge report, and two tests) plus we had all been getting sick but didn't want to waste a perfect travel weekend.

We arrived around 1am on Thursday night and checked in to where we were staying. That next morning we got up and explored the Heidelberg Castle where we went into the courtyard and walked around. Inside, we visited an exhibit about German medicine and ancient medicine. In there we met these two other American students who we later would spend the whole day exploring Heidelberg with. We all walked up and down the main street of Heidelberg at least six times before going into a pub for snacks (& beer). Afterwards, we walked around  more and explored the other side of the Heidelberg River. We even saw the legendary "Brass Monkey". Legend goes that if you rub the money you will return to Heidelberg. Later that night we went to the Brass Monkey bar for dinner because of one the girls I was traveling with best friend grew up in Heidelberg and recommended it (It was amazing!!).

The next morning we woke up late morning and Sam & I got up and explored Heidelberg more. We walked along the main street weaving along through side streets and exploring the town. As we were walking up and down the streets, we stumbled upon this book shelf where you can take and leave books for others to take and leave.

After that we kept exploring and found a small German flea market. Then we walked back to the house we were staying at (near the Castle) where we relaxed, ate food, and napped. That night we were invited over to the apartment of one the Faculty Advisor we were staying near for school and we had dinner with her from 7pm to 11pm. After that we all were exhausted.

Sunday morning, we got up and went on a walk around Heidelberg once again. We went down this insane slide (it was actually kind of painful) and we explored the small streets and churches of Heidelberg. When we got back to where were staying our friends who were studying abroad in Heidelberg had returned and we got to hang out//catch up with them until our train back to Lausanne.

This weekend was so relaxing and we got to continue to grow closer to one another and strengthen our friendship while also exploring such a beautiful city.
